What is the Health Community?
Here at Wyandotte High School the best way to describe the Health Community is with the four simple words: "We are a Family!" Yes, we represent the largest number of students in the school, but every teacher knows its students and cares for them and is striving to help each student reach his or her dreams or aspirations. Our community is made up of some of the smartest, hardest working, most competitive students in the school. This is evident by the number of students who we have in the top ten of every graduating class and by the majority of our students who graduate and continue their education post high school. In general, the Health Community represents a small learning community centered at being the best in education, setting the standards for others to follow and raising the bar for learning.
So why choose the Health Community?
The Health Community provides a unique opportunity for our students to be fully immersed in the health care profession. From day one of your freshman year, we are pushing you to set your sights on college and doing the necessary steps to get there. We focus our teaching on providing you with the necessary skills to be successful in any health care program post high school by offering opportunities to further your education while you are still in high school. We offer our students the opportunity to pick up certification in First Aid and CPR, Clinical Assistant and college level credits in Mathematics, English, Science and Foreign Languages. We also offer classes that pertain to the health care profession (See List of Classes for further details) and provide you with skills that will allow you to excel in any health care program post high school.
Yet our biggest draw to being a member of the Health Community is the opportunity for you to be completely immersed in a health care profession of your choosing. We offer a job shadowing program to be completed during your junior and senior year of high school where you could be in a medical setting gaining hands-on experience in fields ranging from Chiropractic Medicine, Dentistry and other related medical fields. There really is no limit to where your hard work could take you in our community. The choice is up to you and we look forward to helping you reach your dreams of being a health care provider.
